Save the business and employee details once. For each pay period, enter hours and changes. Explanations beside the fields tell you what to enter.
Review earnings, vacation treatment, deductions and take-home pay. Resolve missing information before an authorised person records payroll.
Get the payroll register and payslips. Pay staff and CRA through your own accounts. Linked employees can retrieve their own available documents.
Inside the workspace
Organize the business and employee information. Review the supported calculations. Work with registers, payslips and year-end preparation.
Through your own accounts
Employee payments, CRA remittances and government filing remain your responsibility. Use your own bank and CRA accounts. We prepare records and amounts; saving payroll does not send money or file a return.
A payroll example, in plain English
A fictional Alberta employee works 80 regular hours over two weeks at CAD $25 an hour. There is no overtime or public holiday in this example.
Regular gross earnings
The regular earnings before separate vacation treatment and deductions. Gross pay is not the amount to send to the employee.
Review the deductions
Tax declarations, CPP and EI eligibility, previous payroll totals and the pay date affect the result. Missing facts need an answer, not a guess.
Take-home pay
Check the final calculation, record payroll and use the employee’s net amount for payment through your bank.
This explains the process; it does not quote a take-home amount. Actual pay can include other supported earnings and vacation treatment.
For employers & bookkeepers
Find your people, saved drafts, pay history and next steps in one workspace. Field explanations and worked examples help you enter the right information.
Your policy-manual subscription stays separate. Use the employer entry with your account credentials.
Choose the supported province of employment, confirm the payroll calendar and complete the business details used on documents.
Add the employee record, pay arrangement and required tax, year-to-date and vacation information. Returning users can work from their saved records.
Prepare a draft, enter the period details, calculate and review. Confirmation and permission checks protect sensitive actions.
Download records, pay staff through your own banking process, complete CRA payments or filing through the appropriate accounts, and link employee access when needed.
For employees
Your employer links your verified account to the correct employee record. Sign in through the employee entry to see the documents made available to you.
Employee access follows the linked account and assigned role. It does not grant entry to the employer’s payroll workspace or other employees’ records.
Need an account? Use employee registration, then ask your employer to link your account.
Only records available to your linked account appear here.
Start with a defined scope
These are the only four provinces we currently serve for payroll. Current calculation coverage uses an ordinary biweekly (every two weeks) payroll calendar, with supported 2026 payment dates for provincially regulated employment.
Ordinary biweekly payroll (every two weeks), subject to the employee eligibility checks. These include ordinary full-year CPP eligibility, standard EI treatment and Canadian tax residency. Taxable benefits, bonuses, commissions, garnishments, unsupported deductions, CPP status changes and other unsupported cases need another suitable process.
Planned payroll pricing
The current free beta and planned permanent free tier cover up to 5 active employees. Planned paid limits run from 6 to 30. A sixth active employee requires paid access once launch is available, or an actual complimentary grant. Policy-manual subscriptions stay separate.
Planned permanent free tier
CAD $0/ month
Up to 5 active employees across your business’s linked workspaces.
Planned paid plan · after launch
The first five places have no per-employee charge. The base fee applies only when you explicitly choose a paid plan after launch.
| Selected employee limit | Monthly subtotal before tax |
|---|---|
| 5 employees | CAD $0 |
| 6 employees | CAD $27 |
| 10 employees | CAD $35 |
| 25 employees | CAD $65 |
| 30 employees | CAD $75 |
No sign-in needed to estimate
Choose a free-plan headcount or a paid employee limit. This estimate is before any applicable tax and does not start a subscription.
Whole numbers from 1 to 30. For a paid plan, billing is based on your selected employee limit.
CAD $35/ month
Before any applicable tax. A plan covering up to 10 employees costs this amount even when fewer places are in use.
Downgrading your payroll plan does not erase saved records or issued documents. Authorised users retain access under the applicable retention rules.
Reducing employee numbers to five or fewer does not automatically cancel an existing paid subscription. Review or cancel that subscription in billing to manage future renewals.
Payment availability is checked from the purchaser’s billing address and where the business, bookkeeper and staff use the software—not the employee’s province of employment. After a qualified launch, initial paid availability is limited to businesses with Canadian billing and software-use locations in Alberta, Nova Scotia or Ontario. British Columbia paid checkout is unavailable; free or complimentary access and retained records remain available to authorised users.
Explore now. Before any future payment, select your business and review the selected employee limit, payment availability and any applicable tax in the protected billing workspace. Payroll access and charges are independent of your policy-manual subscription.
Available today · separate from payroll
Build a company-specific policy-manual preview, compare the plans, and subscribe when you are ready. Policy-manual subscriptions are available today and remain independent of payroll beta access.
Additional jurisdictions are priced separately. See plan inclusions, download limits, renewal terms and checkout details on the pricing page. Payroll is not included in these policy-manual prices.

The beta is open now, free for up to five active employees across your business’s linked workspaces, within supported coverage. Paid launch is planned no earlier than January 1, 2027, once the service and new-year calculations are ready. Exploring or creating an account does not start a subscription. You will choose a plan and approve the price before any payroll subscription starts.
Ordinary biweekly payroll (every two weeks), subject to the employee eligibility checks. These include ordinary full-year CPP eligibility, standard EI treatment and Canadian tax residency. Taxable benefits, bonuses, commissions, garnishments, unsupported deductions, CPP status changes and other unsupported cases need another suitable process.
Employers and bookkeepers working with supported provincially regulated employment in Alberta, Nova Scotia, Ontario and British Columbia. The current workspace uses an ordinary biweekly (every two weeks) payroll calendar, with 2026 payment dates. Check the actual province of employment and any special employment rules during setup.
You prepare and review payroll records in the workspace. The employer or bookkeeper pays employees using their own banking arrangements, remits amounts through their CRA or banking accounts, and completes government filing. Saving a payroll run does not confirm that a payment or filing occurred.
The employer links a verified Canada Policy Manual account to the correct employee record. The employee signs in with that linked account and opens the employee portal to see documents made available to them. Access is checked by the server; an employee cannot use the portal to open another employee’s payroll records.
Yes. Use the same account credentials through the employer or employee entry that fits your role. Business membership and server-checked permissions determine which payroll actions and records are available. An employee sign-in does not grant employer access. Policy-manual subscriptions and payroll access are managed separately.
The workspace includes payroll registers, payslips and year-end preparation workflows. Employees can access payslips and issued T4 copies made available to their linked account. The employer completes preparation, review and issuance. Preparing or downloading a document does not confirm government filing.
No. Current payroll calculation coverage is limited to 2026 in Alberta, Nova Scotia, Ontario and British Columbia. Quebec, other jurisdictions, federally regulated employment and unsupported special arrangements require another suitable process. Do not reuse a 2026 result for a 2027 payment.
No. Payroll access and charges are independent of your policy-manual subscription. The free tier covers up to 5 active employees across a business’s linked workspaces. Planned paid pricing for a selected employee limit of 6–30 is CAD $25 per month plus CAD $2 for each place above five, before applicable tax. That means 6 employees: CAD $27; 10: CAD $35; 25: CAD $65; 30: CAD $75 per month. Payments remain on hold before the qualified January 2027 launch. BC billing or software use and unsupported purchaser locations have a separate payment hold.
Changing or downgrading a payroll plan does not erase saved records or issued documents. Access still depends on the user’s role, employer linkage and applicable retention rules. Reducing employee numbers does not automatically cancel an existing paid subscription; use subscription management to manage future renewals.
Begin with the guided business setup and use the field explanations and examples. Gather your payroll calendar, employee pay arrangements, tax declarations and any existing year-to-date records. If a case needs additional assessment, resolve it before confirming a run; do not guess missing employee information.
